Ian

Ian, gay, born in 1950, HIV-positive since 1983.

I was born near Manchester, UK, where I also grew up. When I was 13 years old I came to Hamburg for good and I love living in this city. Nearly all my life I have been active in the gay movement here in Germany.

Being infected since the beginning of the eighties I am very familiar to the subject of HIV. I am greatful to be a survivor of that time and I am happy to be able to share my impressions of dealing with my infection and my knowledge of the infection.

At the end of the nineties I fell into a very serious mental illness. I am thankful for the good and loving support of my therapists through this difficult time. I now can say that I have overcome this illness.

For several years I have been leading the committee for AIDS-Pastoral-Care here in Hamburg.

I think, being able to handle my life in a very open way, is one of my stengths which I would like to share with you. However, this is only a brief view into the experiences I have made so far.
